Marko Aunedi received his M.Eng. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Zagreb, Croatia, in 2000 and 2006, respectively. He is currently a Research Assistant in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Imperial College London. His research interests include generation scheduling under uncertainty, system operation with high penetration of renewable and low-carbon generation, and the impact of storage and flexible demand technologies on power system operation and development.

Richard Baxter is President of Mustang Prairie where he provides advisory services to investors and management in the energy storage industry. Previously, Richard was the Director of Product Strategy for Premium Power Corporation, an energy storage technology developer. Prior to this, Richard was a Principal at Charles River Associates, a global management strategy firm. He has also worked as both a investment banker and equity analyst at Ardour Capital, a boutique Cleantech investment bank, and at Standard & Poor's DRI, a global economic consulting firm. He has also served as the Director of Member Affairs for the Energy Storage Council.
Driss BERRAHO Project manager Morocco NUR ENERGIE , Morocco
Driss was born and raised in Morocco. He has a dual Moroccan and French nationality. He obtained a double engineering degree from Ecole Polytechnique (Palaiseau, France) and the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH, Stockholm, Sweden). Throughout his academic and business career, Driss has developed a diverse expertise in the energy sector, covering technology, economics and policy, with a strong emphasis on sustainable development. He worked as an analyst within the Renewable Energy Division at the International Energy Agency (IEA), supporting the work on the Concentrated Solar Power Roadmap released in 2010. Later, at the Strategy Department of the French energy company AREVA, he served as an analyst, where he conducted various studies of the energy markets in Europe and Asia, specifically modelling the economic and environmental impacts of the various scenarios for the future Japanese energy mix. Highly motivated by the integration of solar energy in the North Africa market, and by the Desertec concept, Driss joined Nur Energie in early 2012 to develop solar power projects in the Moroccan market, focusing on government tenders and partnerships with industrials. Driss is also very active on the technology development and monitoring, and specifically energy storage.
Bernd CALAMINUS Head of Generation Technology Conventional ENBW , Germany
Bernd Calaminus is responsible for conventional and hydro power generation technology at EnBW Holding, where he focuses on strategic aspects of asset management as well as the preparation of investment decisions, e.g. for pumped hydro plants. Working with EnBW since 2006, he started as a project manager for innovation projects in the field of new generation technologies including large storage options such as Adiabatic Compressed Air Energy Storage. In 2000, Mr. Calaminus entered the research sector as Deputy Director of the German-French Institute for Environmental Research at Karlsruhe Technical University, where he conducted techno-economic analysis of emission abatement measures and developed emission reduction strategies, including alternative energy systems for large utilities such as Electricit? de France. Prior to entering the research arena, he started his career in industry as project engineer for turn-key plants for high temperature gasification of waste, and as project manager for balance of plant of a turn-key SIEMENS gas turbine power plant built in Alexandria/Egypt.

Jae Choi is responsible for application engineering and project management in North America for FIAMM Energy Storage Solutions Srl, working with power conversion system manufacturer and client. Jae is also supporting business development and marketing with Sodium Nickel Chloride energy storage system in various sectors such as Utilities, Military, UPS, Residential and Automotive. Jae has strong expertise in Li-ion and large format LFP technology having lead efforts in proceeding renewable backup system projects, developing hybrid system using DMFC for u-grid and having modular Li-ion battery units certified for TRL5/UL1973/UL2054. He joined FIAMM in 2012 as Product and Application Manager. He earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and interdisciplinary computing art from CSUN and UCSD respectively. He was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea and currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife and his son.
Fabrizio CIACCIA Senior Country Manager BYD , Italy
Fabrizio Ciaccia is an Electronic Engineer and since 2007 he has worked in the field of renewable energies, starting from a pure technical role and dealing with design, authorization and construction of both industrial and utility scale PV plants. He has then worked as a business development manager for rooftop and green field projects and, in 2012, he has joined BYD to start its energy storage sector expansion on the Italian market.

Mr Patrick Clerens studied law at the University of Saarbrucken and the University of Mainz. Since 1996, he has worked as a consultant for a private company specialising in European Affairs in Brussels. In his capacity as Brussels Representative of different European associations, he has been in involved in the climate and energy field since 2003. He manages the EASE office in Brussels as the Secretary General since September 2011, when the association was created. EASE believes that energy storage is an indispensable instrument to improve the stability and flexibility of the energy system with respect to European energy and climate policy. EASE aims to support the transition towards a sustainable energy system in Europe. The importance of energy storage for the European industry is well demonstrated: EASE has grown from the initial 13 Founding Members in September 2011 to 32 Members in only one year.

Mr. Cuthbert initially studied for his chemical engineering degree with the intention of working in the Canadian Space Agency on space habitat technology. Dr Pierre Dechamps holds an electro-mechanical engineering degree from Liege University, a Master of Science from Cranfield University and a PhD from Liege University. He worked for 5 years as an assistant in Liege University, in the power generation department. He then joined the industry, CMI, Cockerill Mechanical Industries, one of the world leading heat recovery boiler manufacturers for power stations, where he quickly became the Head of the R&D Engineering Department. From 1998 to the end of 2007, he worked for 10 years for the European Commission Directorate General for Research as project officer for clean coal technologies and later on for CO2 capture and sequestration. In January 2008, he joined the Bureau of European Policy Advisers to President Barroso as the adviser for energy, climate change and the environment. Pierre is married and has three children.

Peter Lang CEng MIET graduated from Southampton University in 1987. He has worked for UK Power Networks (UKPN) and its predecessor companies for 22 years. He has represented UKPN on a number of European Commission funded projects. He is currently involved in UKPN’s Smarter Network Storage bid, funded using Ofgem’s Low Carbon Networks Fund (LCNF), which sets out to understand the commercial and regulatory frameworks and determine appropriate business models to realise the benefits of storage for the whole energy system. Giuseppe Lodi graduated with honours in Electrical Engineering from the University of Bologna, Italy, in 1986. After attending a PhD Course in Electrical Networks Management, he joined the FIAMM Group in 1988 where he began his work in battery technologies. Nina Munzke studied Process Engineering (M.Sc.) with a focus on regenerative energies and renewable raw materials at Brandenburg University of Technology. She finished her studies in 2012 conducting a thesis with the topic “Case study on self-sufficient energy supply for a rural municipality” at the research institute Solites in Stuttgart. Prior to this, she graduated in International Business at ESB Reutlingen in 2008. Between 2009 and 2011 she worked for two different research projects in the field of CO2 reduction in flue gas using microalgae within E.ON Hanse AG and GMB GmbH. She spent 2006 in Spain and 2008 in France for studies and an internship. Currently, Nina Munzke is working at KIT for the project Competence E and leads the team stationary electric energy stores since 2013.

Denis O’Leary graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering from UCC in 1980, and joined the Electricity Supply Board (ESB). In his time with ESB, Denis has served in a number of positions mostly in Distribution and Transmission Networks planning and construction. Denis was appointed Networks Operations Manager for ESB Networks in 1997 and as Head of Asset Management and Regulation in 2003 . Hans is born in Heidelberg. He studied law, economics and sociology at the universities of Munich, Heidelberg and Frankfurt am Main from 1971-1977. He started his career as Research assistant at the Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. He became a Partner at a law and notary office in Frankfurt am Main specialising in commercial, inheritance and media law. His political career started when he joined the FDP following service as school spokesperson and political involvement at university. He became the First Federal Chairman and Co-founder of the FDP Young Liberals, Member of the FDP Federal Executive Committee (Bundesvorstand), Chairman of the FDP Federal Commission for Internet and Media, Chairman of the FDP Rhine-Main regional chapter, City Councilor and City Council Deputy Chairman in Frankfurt am Main, Member of the State Parliament of Hesse, Member of the Bundestag, Media and Cultural Policy Spokesman for the FDP Parliamentary Group and the Chairman of the Bundestag Committee on Cultural and Media Affairs. Since October 2009, he is the Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and since March 2010, the Federal Government Coordinator for the Maritime Industry.

Andrea Paolella was born in Reggio Emilia in 1984. In 2008 he graduated in chemistry at the Università degli Studi di Bologna. He is a Ph.D student at Italian Institut of Technology of Genova (Italia). His research activity concerns the colloidal synthesis of nanomaterials for Li and Na-ion batteries as metal sulfides, metal oxides, lithium and sodium metal phosphate.

Bjorn Peters joined DWS Investments, the retail asset management arm of Deutsche Bank and the largest mutual fund company in Germany, five years ago. He is responsible for setting up and marketing closed-end funds on energy and infrastructure projects. In 2012, a closed-end fund was launched that invests in European small hydropower. A few other projects are in the pipeline that are supposed to finance other, mostly renewable, power stations in Europe and beyond. Before joining DWS, Bjorn worked at McKinsey and at Deutsche Borse AG, where he became an expert in commodity markets. He is founder of Germany's most successful "gold fund", an exchange-traded commodity marketed under the brand "Xetra-Gold". Bjorn holds a PhD in physics. He is married and has two daughters.

Stewart leads SSE’s team dedicated to developing the company’s electricity networks, and their operation, to support a low carbon future. Stewart has worked in the electricity industry since 1983 and has been involved in managing electricity networks in many parts of Scotland, in a range of roles including, Operations Manager, Planner, Policy Engineer and Project Manager (IT and Engineering). Stewart is now Future Networks and Policy Manager, with the remit of introducing new and better ways of managing SSE’s electricity networks, and translating these new ideas into business as usual. A key part of Stewart’s role is as Project Director for SSE’s New Thames Valley Vision (NTVV) and Northern Isles New Energy Solutions project (NINES). These projects between include, monitoring, active network management, analytics and modelling, frequency responsive demand and some of Europe’s largest embedded energy storage facilities, including a 1MW NaS battery and a 150MwHrs distributed energy storage portfolio.

Mr Safarik studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Applied Sciences in Köthen, Germany. He worked in the R&D projects in the field of solar thermally driven air-conditioning and heat storage using phase change materials. He received his PhD from the Technical University Magdeburg in 2003. Since 2002, he is working at the Institute of Air Handling and Refrigeration (ILK Dresden) with the main focus in absorption refrigeration technology. He was also involved in several developments of innovative thermally driven chillers with different working fluids. Since 2012, he is managing the Department of Applied Energy Engineering of ILK Dresden with the main technological fields: water as refrigerant in compression systems, absorption refrigeration technology, water desalination and complex energy systems.

Mr Sengiphile N. Simelane joined the Swaziland Electricity Company (SEC) as its Managing Director as of the 1st of September, 2012. Previous to joining SEC, Mr Simelane headed the Electrical Department at the Total Facilities Management Company (TFMC) based in South Africa. He worked for South Africa’s leading energy company, Eskom, for 10 years since 2001. He joined Eskom as a graduate Engineer and rose to the position of Chief Engineer (Nuclear Programmes). Marcel Skoumal received his degree in Chemistry at the University of Barcelona after having specialized in Physical Chemistry, focusing on Electrochemistry. He received his PhD in 2009 for his study of the application of Advanced Electrochemical Oxidation Processes to the removal of pharmaceuticals in water destined for drinking supply, at the University of Barcelona. Oliver Weinmann is Managing Director of Vattenfall Europe Innovation GmbH. Jurgen Weiss is a Principal with The Brattle Group, an international economic consulting firm, where he heads the firm’s climate change practice.
